TFMSR #043: Episode 09—Marvel Annuals Part 01: 1962-65 …

Tales From My Spinner Rack! Episode 09 is now available for your viewing pleasure! This all-new video is the first of a two-part series devoted to the Marvel Annuals of the 1960s!

After the premiere of Giant Superman Annual #1 in 1960, annuals thrived from both DC and Marvel for the rest of the decade. While DC’s version of an annual was a reprint-filled, 80-page, 25-center, often released TWICE a year (in the summer and around the holidays, for Superman and Batman), Marvel released summer-only 72-pagers with a lot of new material in most of them. The Marvel annuals grew from two in 1962, to four in 1963 and 1964, and finally, six in 1965, as the Marvel Age of Comics—filled with superheroes—took over. This video takes a look at all four of these years, with covers, interior pages, and commentary about each annual.
