Friday Flashback #068 …

The mothership is calling me back. Like Powell’s in Portland, OR, The Strand Bookstore in New York City exerts a powerful influence on me, like the moon locked in orbit over the Earth. I missed going to NYC last year, and it’s looming on my fall trip horizon, just in time for the thick of book-release season. Hopefully, I won’t need an umbrella.

Friday Flashback #067 …

I miss Balboa Park. Oh, it didn’t go anywhere … I did. I moved across the bay almost two years ago and stopped walking almost every weekend through my old stomping ground. Yes, I could climb on the horse (ferry) and do it again, but walking over on Coronado is soooo much easier (no hills!). But I’ll make it back someday, up 4th Avenue, across the Quince St. and Spruce St. bridges, wrap around to Upas St. and into Balboa Park and down Park Blvd. to Broadway and the ferry boat home. Sure I will. Someday.

Friday Flashback #066 …

I call this photo “Peek-a-boo,” since it reveals a different look at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. This is my favorite part of the city, the Southbank (or Bankside) and this particular view is from near the OXO Tower building, a repurposed factory that used to manufacture meat stock cubes for cooking (it was originally built to be a power station for the Royal Mail Post Office). Now it contains shops and offices and restaurants and is part of a walk along the south side of the Thames that I dearly love.

Friday Flashback #065 …

This is my view most days when I leave work and downtown San Diego behind and hop the ferry back to my home on Coronado. Sure, this photo is nicer than most days, with those fluffy puffs of clouds and that deep blue sky behind them, but for the most part, this is my view as I travel home in the evening and leave the world behind. It’s not a bad way to commute, I’ll say that.
