Friday Flashback #074 …

The solitary loneliness of that one palm tree, holding vigil over the Pacific Ocean. This photo was taken from the Pacific Surfliner train, north of San Diego. There’s a great, miles-long stretch where the train tracks run parallel to the ocean, before turning inland into a depressing parade of strip malls and industrial dystopia. But that one tree, holding fast and true, makes up for what comes next on that trainline.

New York state of mind … yes, choose love, always.

While I may currently love London best (see last week’s post, #072), I do also love New York City, where this colorful photo was taken a few years back. I’m finally going back to the Big Apple this year after a one-year absence, and I’m looking forward to it. There’s nothing quite like NYC during the height of Fall book season. I just hope some of the leaves are turning when I’m there.

Oh, London … I love you best.

This odd futuristic (as in 2001: A Space Odyssey futuristic) tunnel is (if memory serves me right) under St. Pancras station and leads to another Underground stop. I loved the lights and look of it, hence this photo. London is once again on my Fall travel list, providing Boris Johnson doesn’t obliterate the country from the face of the earth come October 31.

Friday Flashback #071 …

I’m back after a short hiatus … did you miss me?

We had a run of cloudy, cool, breezy days up until about the end of June this year … and since then it’s been pretty much all-sun, all the time (except in the mornings). That photo above is my stomping ground, usually filled with bikes, walks, and those annoying pedal cars that people rent and yell and scream in as they ride around like a bunch of lunatics. The good news is the summer tourist season is over with this week’s last hurrah of Labor Day. When you’re a kid, the summer stretches out almost infinitely, from last day of school to first day of school; as an adult, it breezes by far too quickly. Luckily, I live in the land of almost-perpetual summer.
