Friday Flashback #046 …

The beach at Brighton in England was a revelation to me. While I knew of the existence of “pebble” beaches, I had never been on one before, so walking on this every-shifting pile of small rocks was a weird sensation, to say the least. The photo above shows the beach itself, facing the English Channel, and the insert shows the incredibly voluminous assortment of pebbles and stones that make up the shoreline. Some of them were so fascinating and beautiful, I had to bring them home … but just a few. Purely for science purposes, I assure you.

Sometimes you go looking for the sunset … sometimes the sunset finds you. That was the happy case this time when I went for a walk at dusk in December and ended up behind the Hotel del Coronado. The sun set off a brilliant display of colors over the course of just a few moments, and I was lucky enough to capture some of it.

This majestic shot of the Turbine Hall in the Tate Modern Museum in London is one of my personal faves from my September/October 3-week sojourn to the UK in 2018. The Tate is a bit high-falutin’ for my taste (but I love their gift shops!), and it’s certainly an amazing structure and a great reusage of an old power plant. Regardless of how I feel about it, I do visit every time I go to London.

We ease into the New Year with this lovely shot of my backyard, facing due east. I’m very lucky to have this as my view every day, and almost every day, that view is stunning. But sometimes, it’s incredible. This was one of those days, as the sun started to set and two random walkers came strolling up the path with San Diego Bay and the city as their backdrop.
