Friday Flashback #031 …

One year ago this weekend, I pulled off my Great Escape. After almost two decades living in the heart of the Gaslamp District in San Diego, I upped and moved to the pleasant and serene island of Coronado. It has been an amazing year, one in which I’ve learned to (mostly) love my new home (there’s always neighbors, am I right?) and the way I commute each day … by ferry back and forth across the bay. In theory, I was setting myself up for retirement in a few years (yes, my boyish charm belies the obvious effects of creeping old age), but it was a much-needed move out of an increasingly deteriorating downtown. Coronado is quiet, green, walkable, and just plain lovely. While moving to San Diego in 1998 (20 years ago!) was the best move I ever made, moving to Coronado was the best move I ever made for my own health, safety, and well-being. Here’s to celebrating my 20th anniversary in 2038 here on this little bit of paradise.
