The big week is here … it’s time for Comic-Con 2025 and wow, talk about double the pleasure, double the fun (and you know me … fun is my middle name) … I will be on TWO panels this year!
The first is Tales From My Spinner Rack LIVE!, based on my YouTube channel, on Thursday, July 24 at 12:00 PM in Room 9. This special edition, celebrating the release of Fantastic Four: First Steps, will focus on our favorite Jack Kirby FF covers. “Our?” you said? What do you mean, “OUR?” Namely Kirby experts Mark Evanier (author, Kirby: King of Comics), John Morrow (editor-publisher, Jack Kirby Collector), and yours truly, a humble Kirby fan for over six decades. We’ll be talking about our top ten Kirby Fantastic Four covers in this graphics-filled presentation that includes all 101 Kirby covers plus his seven FF Annuals. You just might learn some secrets behind some of these fabled images!
My second panel is Comic Clubbing! Celebrating Ten Years of the Comic-Con Graphic Novel Book Clubs, and on Sunday, July 27 at 10:00 AM in Room 4. Since 2014, the Comic-Con Graphic Novel Book Clubs of San Diego have been talking comics and building a community of readers. Hear from club members as they discuss the unique benefits of being in a comic book club, as well as best practices for how to start and run your own local clubs. With club reps Adriana Gonzalez (Downtown), Laura Gidney-Falk (Mission Valley), Luke Burger (North Park), Nicole Assante (La Jolla), Richard Hannasch (Escondido), Robin Dobashi (Encinitas), and Stephanie Flores (Chula Vista). The panel will be joined by Gary Sassaman (former director of programming and publications at Comic-Con), who organized and led the book clubs for much of the decade. Moderated by Erwin Magbanua (Chula Vista Library).

Comic-Con doesn’t livestream any panels. My next episode will post either Friday, 8/8 or 8/15, depending on how long it takes me to recover from Comic-Con.
