For many years, I went to Santa Monica around Christmas for a long weekend. I always stayed at a hotel on the Pacific Palisades, up from the Pier and across from the Pacific Ocean. Santa Monica was a great book town for a while, with a huge Barnes & Noble, the great Hennessy & Ingalls photo and architectural bookstore, and numerous smaller shops dealing with old and new books. It was also the home of the original Hi-De-Ho Comics on Santa Monica Boulevard, a store in which I could always find something to buy. That sadly has all gone away and the area has lost its charm … for me, at least.
I don’t know when exactly I took this photo, but I find myself wondering … am I taking a photo of someone taking a photo of the sunset over the ocean … or is he taking a photo of me? I guess we’ll never know.
