Is there a more quintessential California vehicle than a Volkswagen Van? I guess years ago the ubiquitous “Woody” with a surfboard hanging out the back was THE ride of choice, but those vintage vehicles have become fewer and farther between. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen one on the road in my 20+ years of living here.
Coronado is filled with VW vans, like this classic one in a tamer color seen here. I’ve tried to photograph them every time I see them parked along my walks, and someday, soon, I’ll post my collection. Until then, here’s an essential California photo: A VW van and palm trees … all that’s missing is the beach, a surfboard or two, and a couple of bikini-ed blondes. That’s all.
