It’s hard to believe, but 60 years ago, three of Marvel Comics most famous issues debuted on the very same day, July 2, 1963: Avengers 1, X-Men 1, and Fantastic Four Annual 1. Buying all three issues would set you back 49 whole cents at the time, but you could probably put a child through college if you kept them in great condition and sold them today.
In this new episode, titled “July 2, 1963: Was This Marvel’s Greatest Date?!” you’ll learn what caused Avengers 1 and X-Men 1 to hit the newsstands on the same day and what the missing link is in this Mighty Marvel Mystery. Plus take a stroll down memory lane as I recount what it was like to read these books—and the very first Fantastic Four Annual, with a ton of new material—as they appeared brand-new on the newsstands, in the summer of 1963.
