COUNTDOWN TO COMIC-CON!
We are THREE weeks (Happy 4th of July!) away from Comic-Con 2024, July 25-28 (with Preview Night July 24) at the San Diego Convention Center, and—as I mentioned last week—a Tales From My Spinner Rack LIVE! presentation will take place at the event on Thursday, July 25th (time and room number TBA).
This year’s topic will be “DC Comics in the Swingin’ ‘60s: The Go-Go Checks Gambit!” featuring a brand-new presentation delving into the wonkiest years of DC’s history. Here’s the official panel description:
The Marvel Age of Comics and the Batman TV show had the entire comics world in a superhero frenzy in the mid-1960s. DC Comics jumped into the fray with a whole slew of new characters and reboots, plus a secret weapon: Go-Go Checks, a black-and-white checkerboard at the top of each DC comic cover to make them stand out on the newsstands.
Gary Sassaman (former director of programming and publications, San Diego Comic-Con) brings his popular YouTube Channel back to Comic-Con in this all-new, world premiere presentation, which takes you on a nostalgic tour of DC Comics in 1966-67, with a look back at some of the wilder characters, concepts, and covers of that era.
