The beach at Brighton in England was a revelation to me. While I knew of the existence of “pebble” beaches, I had never been on one before, so walking on this every-shifting pile of small rocks was a weird sensation, to say the least. The photo above shows the beach itself, facing the English Channel, and the insert shows the incredibly voluminous assortment of pebbles and stones that make up the shoreline. Some of them were so fascinating and beautiful, I had to bring them home … but just a few. Purely for science purposes, I assure you.
